Travel Via Tocumen International Airport

Just 15 minutes from Panama City, Tocumen International Airport is the largest and busiest in Central America. From Panama City it doesn't take long by the South Corridor Toll Highway to reach the airport. Currently, Tocumen is the only airport in Central America with two runways for use by passenger traffic. Since 2004, Tocumen's passenger load more than doubled to 4.7 million passengers in 2009.

After three years of modernization, Tocumen has taken its place as one of the most important airports in Central and South America. Modern and technologically advanced, at a cost of $85 million, Tocumen serves the needs and expectations of the international community in terms of passenger service and cargo.

Tocumen's vision is to become the best airport in the region with its mission to "guarantee the safe, efficient, and economic movement of passengers and the exchange of products and services by creating a top quality airport system designed for a sustainable operation that will add value to services it renders."

While there are no business resources near the airport, there is a Sheraton 15 minutes from the airport in San Francisco. The airport terminal does house a VIP lounge called Tocumen Royal Saloon for passengers. An ATM and bank can be found in Departures. There is a Cable and Wireless telephone/fax facility as well as telephones located throughout the airport. The Bureaux de change facilities are located in Arrivals. Concessions--snack bar, restaurants, and coffee shops--are located in the airport. If you want to shop, there a number of shops in Departures, and duty-free shopping can be done in both Departures and Arrivals.

Porters are standing by. Upon leaving the customs area, baggage carts must be left behind. Also, a clinic and showers are available. At the Arrivals level, you can park your car out in the open in front of the main terminal. Public transportation is available with taxi cabs and several bus services linked to downtown Panama City. Taxis are prepaid and hotels offer shuttle service. There are a number of rental car agencies including Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Hertz, National, and Thrifty. These are located in Arrivals after departing the customs area.
